A wildflower is one that has developed naturally over time without human intervention and retains the original characteristics of the plant family. Many species of wildflowers are considered herbs with uses beyond beautiful flowers!

Some wildflowers are considered weeds with pretty flowers. Habitat destruction and pollution factors have endangered many species of wildflowers almost to extinction.

Wildflowers are a big part of our ecology and are enjoying renewed interest. Wildflower seeds are sown extensively for beauty and low maintenance for use in in erosion, ground cover, roadside attractions, meadows, and home wildflower gardens. Wild flowers can easily be seeded and enjoyed as annuals, perennials or both. Once established most wildflower seed species will reseed and return year after year with nominal work on the part of the gardener. Low maintenance features and availability of seed has fostered the revival of wildflower gardening.

Annual wildflowers come back from seeds that germinate each spring and bloom each year to make more seeds. Perennial wildflowers do not bloom until the second year, because of this you may want to be careful when weeding.
